Since it says "disk quota exceeded", though having only 73.1 MB at /home/<user>, I checked

Funny, because the same job ran well yesterday.
So how come I get this messages?
And what do the "6 days" in "quota -u <user>" mean?
Any help would be much appreciated!

The first value in the quota output means that you are definitely over your quota (the * tells you that something is wrong there). The value 1258288 is how many kilobytes you are currently using, from a "soft" quota of 1048576 kB (= 1GB) which is just slightly under the "hard" quota of 1258291 kB (= 1.2GB). You are allowed to go over your soft quota for a specified number of days (this is what the "grace" field in the output means) and you have 6 days left to reduce the usage in your home directory. The "hard" quota is the level you aren't able to go over at all. Hopefully this has at least explained why you are getting the error messages and what the output of =quota -u <username>= means. If you want to find out more about the quota command you can read the manual page like so:
man quota
Are you accessing the cluster system via NX? If so, this means that you've probably moved things you want to delete into the Trash right? If that is the case, then just empty the trash and you should have space again.

thank you so much. I had forgotten that trash-bin completely (used to delete everything for good).
